Sushi Anyone?

Julia turns 6 next week and when I asked Ralph for birthday ideas, she told me that Julia loves wearing sundresses and suggested I make one for her.  I checked out three different fabric stores and was underwhelmed by their choices of cute material for little girls.  I didn’t want a cartoon character like Dora, she’s not “Daddy’s Little Princess” and it’s way too early for Halloween or Christmas.

And then I saw this material which I loved!  Books for tripIf you can’t tell, it has little pieces of sushi all over it along with their names!  It’s not at all what I thought I’d get but for some reason I think it works.  Here’s hoping Ralph likes it and since she doesn’t read this blog, it will be a surprise for her when they arrive in two weeks.  (Note to Tammy, don’t tell Ralph about the photo please.)

Now that her dress is finished (except for the hand sewing) I need to get started on clothes for her American Girl doll!  And trust me, they are harder to make than the Julia-sized clothing.

  1. Although sushi would not have been my first choice for a 6 year-old I think the dress is adorable. I know Julia will love it. And I won’t tell Ralph about the photo on your blog. Did you make a matching dress for Lydia? Is the American Girl Doll dress going to be out of the same material?

Very cute and I like the green trim.

  2. Very cute! Did you get that in Springfield? If so, where? My niece would LOVE that print!

  3. Very cute!

  5. Completely and totally awesome, Anne. It’s like a Lemony Snicket approach to kids’ fashion.

Btw, apropos of our chat first friday at the ‘brary, I’ve been writing more on twitter and facebook than on the blog so check ‘em out!

  6. I love that print! My daughter used it to make a quilt in her high school Textiles class. She picked up the orange from the sushi pieces as well as the wasabi green for the other quilt pieces. It turned out pretty cute!
